Something About Mary
Hi there! My name is Mary Fulton
I am a 44-year-old gal married to her high school sweetheart in fabulous and sunny Southern California. I am also the mother of three amazing boys who are ages 8, 14, and 17.
I’ve always loved to exercise! In high school, I played volleyball, water polo, and swam on the swim team. After high school, I found myself bored at the gym until I stepped into the group exercise studio and took my very first Turbo Kick Boxing class in 1999. It was love at first punch! When I was younger I didn’t give very much thought to nutrition and the food I was putting into my body. Because when you’re a kid, you have the type of metabolism that lets you eat whatever you want and still have high energy. But all that changed as I got older.
When I became a school teacher at age 24, I was super stressed and working really long hours; plus, I stopped working out. Before I knew it, I was about 35 pounds overweight, and pretty depressed. I decided I needed to make a change. At that time I found a weight loss program that worked with counting calories (sound familiar?) and I started working out 5 days a week. Before I knew it, I lost those 35 pounds. Everyone was asking me how I did it. But this diet didn’t focus on what I was putting in my body and whether or not I was eating a high volume of processed foods.
Fast forward 10 years: I am now a fitness instructor at 24 Hour Fitness. It is my love and passion to help others achieve their fitness and health goals. Whether it’s in person or online, I truly love motivating people to dig deeper and push further during my workouts. Fun fact: I even taught during my last pregnancy right up until the last week of my due date. And believe it or not, I was still doing burpees!
After my third baby, I wanted to try something new, and really learn how to eat right. I heard about the benefits of clean eating and meal prepping. When I first lost those 35 pounds, I was allowed to have diet sodas, fake sugars, and foods that were filled with chemicals. This time, I wanted to see what clean eating could do to my body and how it could transform. I joined a group on Facebook and in those 21 days I did not cheat!! I never knew I was strong enough to avoid sugar. I am a sugar-aholic, so it was crazy to see what determination combined with accountability, planning, clean eating, and workouts could do for me! I reached my goals and have never felt better. I was so excited about the changes I was making in my life that I couldn’t stop talking about it.
Once again, people wanted to know all about what I was doing. It finally hit me to become a trainer and coach. This gave me the platform to do exactly what I had been trying to do for more than 5 years: help people get healthy, achieve their goals, and change their lives forever!
I’m so passionate about the work I do. There’s truly nothing better than to watch people change their lives for the better. And I’m so honored you’ve chosen me to part of your journey. I can’t wait to hear your story.
Smiles,
Mary Fulton
